Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Legal Contributes to the Issuance of the World Bank Report on ?Doing Business 2010?

The World Bank Acknowledges the Significant Role of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Legal in Preparing the Report

The World Bank published the seventh issue of the "Doing Business? report for 2010, entitled "Reforming Through Difficult Times". The report was issued in English with summaries and translations in several languages, including Arabic.

The World Bank acknowledged the important role and significant contribution of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Legal in developing Doing Business 2010 Report, and in particular with regard to the Arab countries and the Middle East.

Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Legal conducted surveys and researches in various Arab and Middle Eastern countries and provided the World Bank with the results that were adopted for developing the report for this year. The report highlighted the role of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Legal as the only Arab regional contributor in the preparation of this annual report. The acknowledgement was posted on the website of the report, www.doingbusiness.org, in addition to letters of thanks sent by the World Bank to all offices of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Legal.

The 2010 report presents, through measurement, analysis and comparison, governmental regulatory procedures using 10 indicators related to business from start-up up to liquidation in 183 countries with focus on comparison of legislation and regulatory procedures, as well as reform measures in the business legislative environment to counter the impact of the current financial and economic crisis. Based on these ten indicators, the report pointed out the economic results together with an analysis of the legislative environments and identified the reforms that succeeded in influencing the economic performance of the respective countries.

The report rated the top ten countries in the world that have the highest number of regulatory reform measures during the period 2008/2009 where the United Arab Emirates ranked the fifth and the Arab Republic of Egypt ranked the ninth in the world.

The World Bank published the first issue of these reports in 2003 as a tool for monitoring governmental regulatory performance, as well as the business environment in the countries of the world, in order to provide objective grounds for understanding and improving the legislative environments for exercising business activities. The report is based on data provided by governments, academics, practitioners and other authorized bodies.
