TAG- Confucius Grants Students Scholarships to Experience China

AMMAN --- August 23, 2009 --- Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute (TAG-Confucius), in cooperation with the Shenyang Normal University granted 24 students full scholarships to visit China July 12 - August 9, 2009.
Students representing TAG-Confucius Institute and Mashriq International Schools, enjoyed studying Chinese language and experienced the wonderful world of China and its traditions during their four-week summer camp to Shenyang Normal University.


The camp included intensive classes to learn the spoken and written Chinese language during the morning hours, while cultural and athletic activities during the afternoon; such events included Chinese handcrafts, lectures about the Chinese culture, and Taiji Boxing.


At the end of the camp, Prof. Wu Yulun, dean of School of International Education at Shenyang Normal University presented students with certificates.


?I am really impressed with the discipline and enthusiasm of the Jordanian students, and hopefully we will have a similar experience in the near future,? Prof. Yulun said.


The students also expressed their happiness and appreciation to such an opportunity.


?It was a valuable experience to learn about the Chinese culture, which helped us reach a better understanding and appreciate the common values between the Arabic and Chinese cultures,? a student said.


In addition, four TAG-Confucius Institute students were granted long-term scholarships to China; three of them were accepted to study the Chinese language for 6 ? 12 months, and one student was accepted to study for a bachelor degree in Chinese language and literature, starting from the coming academic year.


TAG-Confucius is the only accredited party by the Chinese government to teach Chinese language in Jordan. The institute organizes other activities besides teaching Chinese language, including organizing and hosting Chinese cultural activities, organizing Chinese proficiency test (HSK), and facilitating scholarships for Jordanian students in China.
