Students shall obtain professional certificates from specialized training institutions which will provide them with better job opportunities than those who are not certified- Dr. Al-Khalafat
AMMAN --- March 3, 2009 --- The Arab Knowledge and Management Society (AKMS) in cooperation with the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Society (TAG-Knowledge) organized on March 1, 2009 a seminar entitled ?University Students? Professional Life... A career or A project.?
Dr. Qais Al-Khalafat, the executive director of the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Academies (TAG-Academies), tackled the effect of the global economic and financial crisis on the Arab region.
?Due to the economic crisis, funding agencies will start providing national organizations with the financial and technical support needed to establish small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for university students,? Dr. Al-Khalafat said.
?Through such enterprises, students will have more choices other than working in private and public sectors,? he added.
On the other hand, for students who choose the career path, Dr. Al-Khalafat stressed that ?Students shall obtain professional certificates from specialized training institutions which will provide them with better job opportunities than those who are not certified.?
In respect of the universities? role, Al-Khalafat believes that they should establish connections with companies to help any graduate get a good job opportunity after acquiring the academic knowledge and professional skills needed.
Meanwhile, he pointed out that universities should gear the students towards setting up their own individual small projects, ?by the time the student graduates, he/she will be able to run his/her own project and develop it, ?he elaborated.
More than fifty students participated in this event from various Jordanian University such as the Yarmouk University, Jordan University of Science and Technology, AlHussien Bin Talal University, AlZaytona University and Al Israa University.
In addition, Dr. Al-Khalafat explained that TAG-Academies will be offering specialized programs in planning, managing, and developing small projects, in addition to the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh program for job development incubators.
In order to attract students to join AKMS, the Society will be organizing similar seminars in several Jordanian universities that promote its activities and courses. Each participant will be granted a participation certificate at the end of each seminar.
