ASCA Holds Its Annual Meeting in Cairo

CAIRO ----- January 8, 2009------The annual meeting of the Arab Society for Certified Accountants (ASCA) was held today in the Egyptian capital with the participation of all representatives from the Arab world.

At the beginning of the meeting, ASCA?s Chairman Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh and the attendees observed a minute of silence in honor of Gaza?s martyrs massacred by Israeli forces.

? What is going on in Gaza will not deter us from performing our duties and carrying out the initiatives that serve our Arab countries; to the contrary, we will keep on exerting our best efforts to provide the region and particularly Palestine with the best of our services,? Abu-Ghazaleh said.

Abu-Ghazaleh welcomed the distinguished guests and discussed several key issues dealing with ASCA?s activities during the 2008.

?We have an excellent future in 2009 through the launch of several key initiatives and agreements that will be an essential part of ASCA?s activities,? Abu-Ghazaleh added.

Abu-Ghazaleh presented the Arab Certified Accounting Technician (ACAT) qualification targeting all Arab professionals working in all fields of accounting. in cooperation with the Chartered Institute of Management Accounting (CIMA).

Attendees were briefed on the preparations of issuing CIMA?s Islamic Finance Certificate which will be launched in the Arab region for the first time.

?This program will be launched in Arabic and the first exam will be held before the end of this year; in addition, the Society will have the mission of conducting agreements with other institutes in the Arab world,? he said.

Meanwhile, attendees and members welcomed agreements and cooperation between ASCA and other societies in all fields and gave their unlimited support for ASCA?s activities.

Abu-Ghazaleh thanked Mr. Osama Tabara, ASCA vice chair for his continuous financial support and generosity for ASCA.

Meanwhile, attendees discussed the international conference which will be held in May 2009 in Abu Dhabi which tackles Arab markets.
