TAG-Org Establishes New Community Development Center

We strongly believe the Center will enhance the employability of disadvantaged youth ? Roger Davies/UNRWA

AMMAN July 6, 2008 The Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) has recently established the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Community Development Center in the Gaza refugee camp near Jerash, in the northern part of Jordan.

The Center, due to open in August of this year, will offer the camp?s residents the Abu-Ghazaleh Cambridge IT Skills Certificate program, in addition to English language skills training courses.

The Center is being established as an affiliate of a larger institution called the ?Gaza Camp Community Development Center?. It will operate under the supervision of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

TAG-Org will provide all equipment and furniture necessary and will provide discounted rates for all training and examinations offered in the Center.

Further, TAG-Org will hold a training workshop for the Gaza Camp Community Development Center?s task force, in order to prepare its members for the five-year strategic plan that will assist in the camp?s progress by providing opportunities for its youth. This will be supervised by Mr. Kais Khalafat, executive director of professional services at the TAG-Org Jordan office.

Accordingly, Chairman and CEO of TAG-Org , Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, received a letter of appreciation from the Acting Director of UNRWA Operations in Jordan, Mr. Roger Davies. In the letter he stated ?It is with great pleasure and gratitude that we accept your kind and generous donation to Gaza Camp?.We strongly believe that the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Community Development Center will enhance the employability of disadvantaged youth in the camp and will contribute to improving their living conditions.?

On his part, Mr. Khalafat said that this is the second venture of its kind TAG-Org launches this year, with the first being the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Society (TAG-Knowledge).
?Both the new community center launched by TAG-Org in the Gaza Camp and TAG-Knowledge are non-profit initiatives that aim at providing free or very affordable services and training to the youth in various communities. This in turn will both avail better opportunities for these young men and women and help address the social and economic issues they face,? Khalafat elaborated.
