Damascus Hosts ASCA Annual MeetingDamascus Hosts ASCA Annual MeetingDAMASCUS June 4, 2008 The Arab Society of Certified Accountants (ASCA) convened the annual meeting of its board of directors and general assembly in the Syrian capital yesterday, under the chairmanship of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh and with the attendance of a number of professional leaders from Arab countries.

The board of directors discussed a number of significant topics, primary of which was the development and issuance of a certificate in business accounting and Islamic financing, in addition to a certificate of an Arab certified technical accountant, in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). These certificates would be issued with both the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) logo and that of the CIMA.

It is worth noting that CIMA is a recognized accounting institution in the United Kingdom and enjoys a global presence that includes 70 thousand members and 100 thousand students.

Damascus Hosts ASCA Annual MeetingThe board also evaluated the results of the November 2007 examinations and commended the high rate of students? success in these exams, while praising the initiative of Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh in honoring the student who achieves the top grade.

In addition, the board conducted a review of the training programs and decided to expand the geographic areas of professional training to include all Arab countries.

At the meeting?s conclusion, it was also agreed to send a letter of appreciation to Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad on the occasion of Damascus hosting the event. Chairman Abu-Ghazaleh stated in the letter that the expertise of the Society is at the disposal of the state?s institutions in order to develop the profession in Syria along with the country?s economy
