AGIP Chairs IDN Working Group

The Intellectual Property Constituency (IPC) has launched a working group in the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), in order to study all issues related to the availability of Internationalized Domain Names. Mr. Charles Shaban, Executive Director of Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) was elected to chair the Working Group, which is made up of nine persons representing the globe.

Mr. Shaban announced that the main responsibilities of the working group are, preparing a report about all aspects related to Internationalized Domain Names, especially those related to IP, and to submit this report to ICANN Board of Directors. In addition, the working group will examine the issue of any amendments regarding the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), which is the adopted policy by ICANN for resolving domain names disputes. Hence, this issue certainly needs updating and consideration since this policy was only formulated for English Language domain names.
