We are extremely grateful for the support that Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh gives to the Canisius accounting program - Dr. Gress
BUFFALO ------ May 5, 2010 ------ The Talal Abu-Ghazaleh International Award for Excellence in the Accounting Programs has been granted to Mr. Robert Cavallari, Jr. in a special ceremony at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York.
The Award was first introduced following a visit conducted by Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman and CEO of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) to Canisius College, Western New Yorks premier private comprehensive university, which ranks of America?s Best Colleges.
Impressed with the quality of the accounting students at Canisius College, Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh discussed with Dr. Edward J. Gress, then Chairman of the Department of Accounting, some possibilities for cooperation. As a result, the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Center for Business Research was established through annual funding from Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh and an annual award to the outstanding graduate from the graduate accounting program was announced.
?Since its inception, a total of 23 awards were granted with the latest being to Mr. Cavallari, Jr. who is an outstanding graduating student from the MBA Program in Accounting and has a cumulative average close to 4.0 in all accounting courses taken. Upon graduation, Cavallari will join the Deloitte & Touche accounting firm,? Dr. Gress said.
?The Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Award for Excellence in the Accounting Programs is the most prestigious award that is granted each year to a graduating student from the graduate accounting programs at Canisius College,? Dr. Gress added.
Applicants to this award compete by submitting essays on their expected future careers and by subjecting themselves to an intensive interview by a committee from the Council on Accountancy.
?We are extremely grateful for the support that Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh gives to the Canisius accounting program. With his ongoing contribution, we believe that Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh enhances our vision at Canisius College ?where leaders are made?,? Dr. Gress stated.
The Award was in support of the newly established MBA Program in Professional Accounting that was launched in 1986. With the introduction in 1995 of the MBA Program in Accounting, graduating students from this program became also eligible for the Award.
This Award is now given at the Canisius College Annual Accounting banquet to an outstanding graduate from either the MBA Program in Professional Accounting or the MBA Program in Accounting.
