BEIRUT ---- February 1, 2014 ---- Lebanons Parliament signed an agreement with a group of international companies headed by the International Management Group in the partnership with Aldar Consulting-Talal Abu- Ghazaleh Associates, TAS EURO,  LENA,and the French National Assembly to implement a project for support of Parliamentary Development in Lebanon.

The project, funded by the European Union, aims at enhancing the Parliament’s efficiency so that it appropriately carries out its tasks and responsibilities.

According to the agreement, the project implementation starts mid February 2014 aiming at:

- Improving the legislation process and improving the quality of legislation, through reviewing the legislative procedures and increasing their efficiency and developing the legislation mechanism. In addition to, establishing an effective legal department as defined in the Parliament’s bylaws and improving technical and administrative support for the parliamentary committees.

- Improving oversight by Parliament: by enhancing the role of the committee members by refining the institutional relation with independent institutions and organizations.

- Enhancing the research and analysis competency of the Parliament by reviewing the development of a parliamentary strategy for systematic research and implementing it, and to use the research skills by most of the MPs.

- Finally, enhancing the institutional role of the Lebanese Parliament, and accordingly developing an ICT strategy and implement it, as well as improving the Parliament’s website. As well as, enhancing an orientation and introductory program for MPs and implementing it.
