World Bank Appreciates TAG-Legal as a Regional Contributor for the 5th Year in Row

AMMAN- December 14, 2014-  The World Bank Group has expressed its appreciation for Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Legal (TAG-Legal) team for its contribution in the World Bank’s Doing Business 2015 Report, and has acknowledged TAG-Legal “generous knowledge-sharing” and continuous support for the project’s research team.

The World Bank, under the presidency of Kim Yong Jim, has recently launched The Doing Business 2015 Report entitled “Going Beyond Efficiency”, which is the 12th in a series of annual reports aiming at enhancing business activity by measuring regulations across 189 economies, each evaluated based on how close their business regulations are to the best global practices.

TAG-Legal has conducted, as a regional contributor in the Doing Business 2015 Report, 22 surveys through its offices in the following countries: Turkey, UAE, Oman, Lebanon, Egypt, Qatar, Syria, Bahrain, Jordan, KSA, and Kuwait.

The Doing Business project, which has been first launched in 2002, has expanded coverage to include 2 cities in 11 economies. And has updated the Doing Business methodology for this year and 2016, which was recommended by Independent Panel on Doing Business and by broader consultations, to conform to the new technologies engagement in government interaction with citizens and business communities.

Accordingly, changes has reached “8 of the 10 Doing Business indicator sets, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting credit, protecting minority investors, paying taxes, enforcing contracts and resolving insolvency”, the report indicates.

According to the report’s findings, Singapore is first on ease of doing business, entrepreneurs in 123 economies saw improvements in regulatory framework, Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for 5 of the 10 top improvers in 2013/14.
