Lebanese Prime Minister Receives Talal Abu-Ghazaleh

BEIRUT --------June 17, 2015-------- Lebanese Prime Minister HE Mr. Tammam Salam received HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org), and his accompanying delegation at Al-Saray in presence of the Lebanese Minister of Environment HE Mr. Mohammed Al-Mashnouq.

During the meeting, the two parties discussed ways to enhance and develop the services provided by the private sector to serve the country and improve the provided services, especially in the fields of ICT and accounting.

After the meeting, HE Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh said that he had discussions with HE the Prime Minister regarding three significant topics and offered him three appropriate recommendations aiming at serving Lebanon.

He added that the first recommendation is to establish a coalition of services for the Arab world in Beirut indicating that this decision is originated from a recommendation by the United Nations and the League of Arab States to carry out this mission under his supervision.

He pointed out that all necessary procedures were started and the official approvals to establish this coalition were obtained. He illustrated that the services field represents 80% of GDP which means that it is the basic component of economy, employment and labor.

HE Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed that this coalition being in Lebanon means that Lebanon will be a center for organizations, unions and firms of services for the Arab world. Lebanon will interact with them as well as with the International Federation of Services Sector.

During the meeting, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh invited the Prime Minister to inaugurate the project in presence of the United Nations and the League of Arab States.

Regarding the second recommendation, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh said: “It is related to the refurbishing of computers project I started as chairman of the UN Global Alliance for ICT and Development (UN-GAID). This project is voluntary not profitable through which we obtain the computers stored in ministries, companies and the private sector based on a decision made by the government in order to refurbish and present them to institutions in need instead of destroying or storing them representing a burden on ministries”.

Under the patronage of HE Prime Minister of Jordan, Dr. Abdullah Ensour, TAG-Org has inaugurated the second phase of TAG Computer Refurbishment Center project to refurbish computers during last April. This project significantly contributes in building local capacities in the field of ICT through providing schools, societies and associations with computers especially in the governorates and areas out of Amman.

On the other hand, the third recommendation offered by HE Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh to the Prime Minister, is related to the accounting system in the state, saying: “No doubt that Lebanon in its current development and desire to continue its cultural development needs to change its accounting system to the globally recognized system which publish in IASCA which I chair, in cooperation with IFAC to generalize the change into the accounting system globally adopted in the public sector". He pointed out that this process means that we apply the accounting standards in terms of control and presenting the true financial statements that encourage sponsors and financers to rely on the financial statements of the state.

HE Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stated to the Prime Minister that he put himself and the three recommendations at the disposal of the Lebanese state and the Prime Minister personally.”
