Mutah University Grants its First Honorary PhD to Talal Abu-Ghazaleh
MUTAH, Karak - December 7, 2015 - The University of Mutah has granted for the first time ever an honorary PhD in Business Administration to His Excellency Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, in recognition of his professional career, a large part of which he dedicated for the service of different segments and entities in the Jordanian society. Mutah University accordingly became the first Jordanian university to grant an honorary PhD to Abu- Ghazaleh.
The University was established by virtue of a Royal Decree in 1981, and is the only university in the Kingdom that joins civil and military divisions, and provides education in many fields, especially medicine and nursery. The military sector became operational in 1984 in the permanent location of the University in the town of Mutah. In 1986, the Council of Higher Education decided to establish the civil division.
During the ceremony that was held with the attendance of trustees, deans, managers and a number of the University students and academic staff from both the military and civil branches, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his gratitude and thankfulness to the University saying: “It is a great honor that the University treats me with such generosity and selected me to be the first Jordanian university to grant an honorary PhD, and for me to be chosen as the first recipient of this certificate. This will form a historic day for me, especially by this distinguished university, which is the only university to join the civil and military branches, and whose footsteps many countries try to follow in teaching both aspects, and reach the level of its success and advancement.”
He emphasized the importance of Mutah University, since thanks to its wise administration, and thanks to the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II may God protect him, it supplies the different organizations in the Kingdom with the best expertise and competent people in the civil and military fields.
He also stressed the necessity of keeping up with the developments in the educational field, expressing his willingness to contribute to all possible fields through his various educational and professional organizations, highlighting the importance of education being the foundation of every achievement in life that we should not fall short in, especially in the governorate of Karak, which gave birth to many leaders who served the country in different sectors.
On the other hand, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Yousef Qsous, maintained that it was a great honor to grant the first honorary PhD by the University to Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, which came as a simple expression of gratitude to and appreciation of his distinguished, advanced and premier intellect, pointing out that the fact of granting the first honorary PhD by the university was a source of pride and a sense of uniqueness, since His Excellency is one of the distinguished people who deserves this honoring, which the University does not consider to even be enough.
The President of the University, Dr. Rida Khawaldeh, stated that the University selected Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh to grant him the first honorary PhD due to his being one of the pillars of the economy, investment and business, in addition to being a national personality that has a variety of contributions at all levels, as well as being a character with a supreme status in guiding innovation and distinction.
Dr. Khawaldeh recited the decision to grant Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh an honorary PhD in Business Administration, which is decision No. 614/2015 pursuant to Article 5/B of the System for Granting Higher Scientific Degrees at the University of Mutah, which was made based on the recommendation of the University’s President. This was due to the fact that Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh is distinguished on the Arab and international levels in the field of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial development, and is considered to be one of the most influential Arab economy persons in the fields of management, business and investment, in addition to establishing a number of distinguished organizations in investments, research and studies in various fields.
On the side of the ceremony, an agreement was signed between Mutah University and Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Center, in order to provide various professional services provided by Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization to the University.
The memo states that Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Center would update the University’s website, and uses cloud storage in order to make a contingency plan that serves as a safeguard against catastrophes and increases the protection of the website, in addition to working on electronically archiving the university’s data through a special electronic archiving system, updating its electronic financial system and linking all of its systems into one system, as well as providing IT courses to qualify the University’s staff to use the electronic system to be set up.
