TAG-Org Organizes Art in the Service of Humanity Campaign for the Renowned Artist Samar Al-Shamsi
AMMAN - June 6, 2016 - Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org), in cooperation with the UAE Embassy in Amman and the Greater Amman Municipality, organized a humanitarian campaign for the Emirati artist Dr. Samar Al Shamsi to support Syrian refugee children.
The campaign, which comes under the theme ‘Art in the Service of Humanity’, aims to express solidarity and alleviate the suffering of children who have been displaced and lost their families, homes and schools due to conflicts and wars.
TAG-Orgs support for the campaign is envisaged as part of the social responsibility undertaken by HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh towards each and every member of the society at large, as he always seeks to support the young generation, believing that refugee children are capable to be successful, distinguished and talented, no matter what difficulties they face. In addition, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh also believes support and guidance play also a critical role in instilling confidence in the hearts and minds of children.
TAG-Org has and through a dedicated team conducted a special study to identify the total number of children in camps, their distribution, and age category, given that the campaign targets children of age groups 4 to 9 years in the Emirati and Zaatari camps.
The team has distributed special parcels to children that contain special educational books, schooltools and colors encouraging children to practice drawing and to express the anguish and sufferings endured through the war. The first delivery were handed on May 29th in the Emirati camp for Syrian refugees, and the second will be handed on the 3rd day of Eid Al-Fitr in Zaatari Refugee Camp.
The campaign includes distribution of the book entitled, "Our Colors: Our Dreams" by Dr. Al Shamsi to all children in the Emirati and Zaatari refugee camps, that features her own special drawings attempting to translate and express what goes on in the minds of children aspiring for peace, their hopes and their pains.
The campaign comprises the opening of an art exhibition for Dr. Al Shamsi, portraying a number of her paintings, which actually explain the sufferings of those children. Proceeds generated from sales of paintings will be used for providing care and education to children in these two camps.
The Campaign is sponsored by the UAE Embassy in Amman, the Greater Amman Municipality and the Emirates Human Rights Society in the United Arab Emirates, which aims - through its mission - to promote respect for human rights principles, build a society based on justice, equality and the rule of law, and preserve human dignity for all members of society alike without discrimination on the basis of gender, religion, thought, opinion, race or social status.
