Abu-Ghazaleh Commends the Closing Statement of OICHF Founding Meeting

DOHA - May 30, 2016 - The Founding Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Humanitarian Fund (OICHF) headed by His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani, chairman of the Board of Trustees/chairman of the Founding Committee of the Council, and attended by HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org)concluded its activities in the Qatari capital, Doha.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh commended the closing statement issued at the end of the meeting, in which participants urged various donor organizations to adopt governance applications and a sophisticated disclosure system to focus on infrastructure development and ensure transparency of objectives, policies, and projects, and  focus on capacity building within its role as a coordinator between donor institutions in the most efficient manner and concentrate on education as a priority.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh participated in the meeting, organized by the “Humanitarian Funds” for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), along with representatives from various governmental, civil, private, and international donor institutions. His participation came after his recent election as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Islamic Council of the OICHF, after receiving a special letter from HE Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani, concerning his selection for the membership of the Council.

In the closing statement, recommendations adopted by the participants underlined the need to protect the Islamic identity of the Council, and to ensure that its membership is open for all member states of the OIC. It was also mentioned that international expertise and capacities of donor institutions are accessible for member states, and that there is a need to increase impact of outputs of the humanitarian work to save effort and cost.

Participants called for drawing the attention of donors- through the Council- to the need of addressing root causes of the Islamic worlds problems and to develop comprehensive solutions that guarantee achieving concrete results and realizing a tangible impact. Raising the coordination level in field work among donor institutions was also requested, in addition to raising responsiveness by establishing a specialized agency for disaster assessment and launching appeals.

Participants stressed on the need to establish an Information and Studies Center to enhance strategic planning and formulate a common vision and roadmap for humanitarian work in member states of the OIC, which will help to strengthen the cooperative system and enable it to be more sensitive and suitable to Islamic values and local needs.
