Abu-Ghazaleh, Damascus University President Hold Talks

Abu-Ghazaleh and Mualla tackled several key educational issues related to building bridges of cooperation

DAMASCUS --- June 3, 2008 --- Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh , Chairman and CEO of the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org), met on Monday with Dr. Wael Mualla, President of the Damascus University.

The meeting, which was attended by a number of TAG-Org’s executive directors, addressed aspects of cooperation between TAG-Org and the University in various scholarly and professional fields.

Dr. Mualla stated that he was looking forward to increased collaboration with TAG-Org, while Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his pride in being at the Damascus University.

“It as a historic scholarly institution that has graduated generations of leaders and businesspeople that have served Syria and other Arab countries,” Abu-Ghazaleh said.

Abu-Ghazaleh and Mualla tackled several key educational issues related to building bridges of cooperation.

They also highlighted the importance of developing teaching methods to overcome challenges facing the educational sector in the Arab world.

The University of Damascus is the largest and oldest university in Syria. It was founded in 1923 from the merger of the School of Medicine (established 1909) and the Institute of Law (established 1913). Later, other faculties were added to the university and it witnessed major improvements after Syrian independence in 1946.

The university was known as the ‘Syrian University until 1958 when the University of Aleppo was founded, so the name changed into Damascus University.

Today the university consists of 14 faculties of literature and human sciences, education, economics, law, agriculture, Islamic Shariaa, pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, civil engineering, fine arts, architecture, mechanic engineering, and the Higher Institute of Administrative Development.

Meanwhile, TAG-Org is a global organization with 70 offices and 180 correspondents worldwide. It specializes in: auditing, valuation, management consulting, ICT development, business advisory, training, educational consultancy, capital services, human resources development, real estate consulting, translation, legal service, intellectual property rights protection and domain name registration.
