To Transform Amman into a Smart City
Greater Amman Municipality and Talal Abu-Ghazaleh for Smart Solutions Sign MoU
AMMAN --- December 1, 2014 --- The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) and Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Information Technology International (TAGITI) signed today a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum.
According to the MoU, signed by HE Mr. Akel Biltaji, Mayor of the Greater Amman Municipality and HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, TAG-Org chairman, both parties will work jointly to transform Amman into a smart city.
The signing ceremony was attended by officials of the Amman Municipality and members of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh for Smart Solutions as well as media representatives.
To realize this significant achievement, it was agreed to develop a comprehensive strategic plan to study the practical steps for facilitating, implementing and activating the smart solutions and their output, to eventually launch the “Amman Smart City” at the Centennial Celebration of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The Memorandum also stipulates for establishing Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Society at the Amman Municipality to support the GAM society and the Jordanian youth in building and improving their skills and developing their qualifications.
In addition, the agreement provides for establishing a digital media center at the Municipality, in addition to providing consulting services to Amman Municipality in the field of Cloud Computing.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh welcomed the Mayor of Amman and the accompanying delegation, expressing his pleasure for maintaining cooperation and partnership with the Amman Municipality. He also commended the vision and determination of the Mayor to achieve development in all fields, assuring that today’s meeting is a partnership to enhance the Municipality’s projects and programs. He also stated that the world currently witnesses a leap towards smart cities rather than electronic ones in an accelerated development aiming to simplify and facilitate the different daily requirements.
Moreover, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh emphasized the keenness of TAG-Org to carry out this national duty, indicating that smart applications in various transactions are vital to fight corruption and handle bureaucracy. He also expressed his hope that Amman Municipality becomes a platform for knowledge and a model for various ministries as well as public and private institutions.
On his part, Mr. Biltaji expressed his deep gratitude to TAG-Org, appreciating its willingness for cooperation and partnership with the Amman Municipality, which enhances its efforts and role in offering smart applications for the various services it renders.
The Mayor also noted that this partnership is consistent with the Amman Municipality’s endeavors to promote its quality services provided to citizens in a manner that reduces effort and time and achieves integrity, transparency and satisfaction of citizens, especially in light of the huge services provided by the Municipality.
