TAG-Org Participates in the Higher Coordination Committee of the Arab Literacy Decade 2015-2024 Meetings

CAIRO------ February 24, 2015------- Upon an official  invitation by the Secretariat General of the Arab League, Talal Abu- Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) participated in the first meeting of the Higher Coordination Committee of the Arab Literacy Decade held recently  in Cairo.

The meeting was chaired by the Secretariat General of the Arab League, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization and the Arab Republic of Egypt (owner of the initiative) and witnessed the participation of 16 Arab states: the UAE, Bahrain, Algeria, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Sultanate of Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Egypt, Iraq, Morocco and Yemen in addition to the Arab Women Organization, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab Network for Literacy, Talal Abu- Ghazaleh Organization, UNESCO’s Regional Center for Adult Education, the Egyptian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology as well as the Adult Education Center at Ain Shams University.

This meeting comes within the context of implementing the Arab Literacy Decade adopted by the Secretariat General of the Arab League, as part of Egypt’s initiative launched in Kuwait Summit 2014 which aims to eliminate illiteracy in the Arab world during the current decade. The meeting sought to develop a work plan for the Arab Literacy Decade, and to determine the roles of the concerned parties and the timetable for implementation. 

TAG-Org submitted a comprehensive paper that included literacy programs of three topics, namely; alphabetic literacy, cultural literacy and digital illiteracy. These programs were developed on the basis of TAG-Org expertise of more than 43 years in all Arab states in the fields of education and training. In addition, the programs focus on knowledge as a basis for education through participation and using information and communication technology as an enabling instrument in all areas.

Mr. Salah Abu Osbeh, TAG-Org Executive Director of International Partnerships- expressed the Organization’s pride of this invitation and implementing the recommendations of the Conference in collaboration with the Committee, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization and all member states of the Higher Coordination Committee in all issues related to the implementation of the Arab Literacy Decade. He also indicated that TAG-Org exists in all Arab states which promote its knowledge and enable it to perform various tasks.
