TAGValuation Participates in the 3rd Conference on Technology Commercialization

    AMMAN ? Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Valuation (TAG Valuation), a member of the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAGorg), participated in the 3rd Conference on Technology Commercialization ?Valuing Your IP: What is It Worth??, organized by Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship (QRCE), at the Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) headquarters.
The two-day conference was held under the patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya bint Al Hassan, head of PSUT and sponsored by the National Fund for Enterprise Support (NAFES), as part of the 13th Jordan Scientific Week , October 28 ? November 3, 2007.
The event addressed issues concerned with Intellectual Property (IP) Valuation, its importance, methods in addition to the general concepts that define it.

Moreover, the Conference focused on the practical issues in IP Valuation such as building a successful IP commercialization strategy, valuating innovative technologies, winning IP negotiations and valuing brand equity in the Arab region.

A diversity of researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, students, academics, IP legislators and private ventures participated in the event leading to a positive response from all the attendees.

Participants discussed the novel approach in Innovation Management and introduced new innovation audit software.

During the Conference, two panels conducted their papers; one of the papers  ?Local & International Case Studies? reflected the experiences of different companies who have gone through the IP valuation process.

The second panel discussed a paper entitled ?How IP Policies Helps R&D in Academia? which tackled the current IP environment in Jordanian academic institutions from an R&D perspective and the beneficial role of stronger IP policies and legislations.

"Our participation played a big role through presenting our ideas and experience in IP Valuation," Prof. Dr. Heinz Goddar ? TAGValuation Board Member said.

He shed light on the German Law, particularly its concern with employees inventions, according to which, the remuneration paid to the employee is based on a license analogy approach.


In the field of Valuation of Innovative Technologies, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Moser discussed the IP Valuation methods and its significance in valuing assets. Such methods include; ?Income Approach and how it determines the value of an asset as a present value of the future income, the Market Approach which determines the value of an asset by reference to market prices of comparable (identical or similar) assets, and finally, the Cost Approach that determines the value of an asset using the amount of money which is required to attain identical or similar assets.

The increase in the number of participants in comparison to last year reflects the high level of awareness that Jordan is witnessing in IP field.

The Conference hosted a number of local and international specialists from Jordan, the USA, Germany and KSA.
