BETHLEHEM – The Palestine Ahliya University, through its Alumni and Training Unit, has hosted HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder and chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), to lecture on: “The World Awaiting Us After Corona?’. The lecture was held in the presence of members of the academic and administrative bodies and University students in addition to a host of economic experts, journalists and members of civil society institutions.

HE Dr. Imad Al-Zir, Vice President of Palestine Ahliya University, who moderated the lecture through Zoom video conferencing app, welcomed Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh, saying “I welcome Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh  our guest whom we are proud to host electronically. Dr. Abu Ghazaleh is the founder and chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), the leading organization in providing professional and accounting, auditing, transfer of technology, knowledge, Intellectual Property and other services as well as the Chair of UN Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technology and Development in addition to other honorary and prestigious positions,” Dr. Al Zir said.

For his part, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his pride in his participation in a lecture organized by the Palestine Ahliya University, “a university that holds the name of our beloved country Palestine, he said adding: “What we would witness this year is a greater recession than the Great Depression that took place between (1929 and 1933), Covid-19 would live with us for a long time, therefore; its negative economic effects would continue, so, it is unacceptable to wait  for the epidemic to disappear before we prepare for the expected economic consequences.”

Furthermore, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh added that the ‘research centers, especially the American ones, are discussing an enormous economic crisis that develops and grows during our continuing battle against Corona; the crisis that by the end of this year will reach the Greatest Depression in history’.

“The crisis” he added “is expected to start in the US, proceed  towards  Europe and even to China. The economy would be largely impacted and the unemployment rate will increase. ‘The US would face a budget deficit of more than 100%.” Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh further asserted: “All economic indicators are negative, the situation in the US is tense, and tension is even greater in view of America’s concern about the rising power of China.”

Advising the University students, Abu-Ghazaleh said: ‘You can teach yourself in the field of your choice. Everyone could create a specialization of his own. The University is just a mediator for preparing the person to develop his specialization.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh called on all universities to move toward digital education, saying that: “Corona crisis has proved that the best solution to confront the major problems is the digital education and Palestine should be the most beneficiary, especially because it lives under occupation.”
