Abu-Ghazaleh calls for a meeting of the Advisory Board for the Consortium for Sustainable Urbanization on its 10th Anniversary

AMMAN – HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder and chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), called for the Advisory Board of the Consortium for Sustainable Urbanization (CSU) based in New York, to convene and discuss pressing matters related to global sustainability in his capacity as Chair of the Consortium.

The meeting is to be held digitally on the Consortium’s 10th Anniversary with the objective of holding an interactive workshop for its members, consisting of 12 eco-friendly cities, on effective strategic planning for future smart cities. The meeting aims to direct the work of the Consortium in light of the global environmental challenges, through consulting with its experienced members to develop pragmatic initiatives that will make a difference to the sustainability practices of nations globally. This is imperative in light of the United Nations projection that the global population will rise from 7.7 billion currently to 9.7 billion by 2050.

It is worth mentioning that the CSU was established under the initiative of Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh when he was chair of the United Nations Global Alliance for ICT and Development that was launched in 2009. This was under the auspices of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, to promote a better understanding of the role of sustainable urbanization and resilient design in cities planning. The CSU  includes Paris, Delhi, Seoul, Nairobi, London, Chicago, Houston, São Paulo, New York, Los Angeles, Copenhagen and Rio de Janeiro.

It should be noted that Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh had written a book titled “The Inevitable Digital Future: A World of Smart Cities”, in which he discusses the benefits of smart cities and their establishment, applications, and development methods, with the aim of benefiting from Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT) and other Industry 4.0 technologies, to develop smart, sustainable cities for the future.

The training workshop is part of a series of lectures held by the Consortium with the participation of high-ranking dignitaries from the member cities to stimulate discussions that lead to tangible results.

The Consortium for Sustainable Urbanization (CSU) is a non-profit organization, that works in cooperation with the relevant United Nations agencies especially the urban cities and centers around the world. It is a professional global organization that aims to promote sustainable urban development through exchanging and disseminating knowledge and experience. Accordingly, the CSU holds press conferences, webinars, workshops and other events that bring together UN experts, city leaders, policymakers and various stakeholders who are involved in urban design, planning and publications. The Consortium further seeks to promote smart, sustainable urban development through the application of new and emerging digital technologies.
