Luay Abu-Ghazaleh Chairs the 16th Board Meeting of the ‘Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute’

AMMAN – Mr. Luay Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman of the Board of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute (TAG-Confucius), a member of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), has recently chaired the TAG-Confucius’s 16th annual Board Meeting, digitally held in cooperation with Shenyang Normal University in China. 

The Meeting was attended by TAG-Confucius Executive Director, Mr. Mamoun Abu Al-Sebaa, and Dean of TAG-Confucius Institute, Dr. Yang Songfang; in addition to a delegation of Shenyang Normal University which included Vice President, Dr. Yubing Tong, Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, Zhang Wei, Director of Personnel Department, Zhou Zhentian, and Director of College of International Business, Dr. Li Feng, Deputy Director of International Exchange and Cooperation, Ms. Hu Bo, CI Coordinator of International Exchange and Cooperation, Ms. Wang Tian. 

During the Meeting, Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Shenyang Normal University for its ongoing support offered to TAG-Confucius. He also expressed his pride in the successful long-term partnership between TAG.Global and Shenyang Normal University, which dates back to 2008, pointing out that this partnership is exceptional, as it is the first of its kind globally between a Chinese university and the business sector.

Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh further emphasized the keenness and commitment of HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, TAG.Global founder and chairman, to strengthen ties between both sides. This is through the existing partnerships, as well as the establishment of new collaborations across various fields, all in support of the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative.

Moreover, Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh stated that TAG.Global is looking forward to enhancing further collaboration with Shenyang Normal University by increasing the number of qualified teachers to teach Chinese as a foreign language, with the goal of incorporating Chinese language into the Jordanian curriculum, similar to an initiative conducted in Saudi Arabia. 

He went on to add that TAG.Global aims to cooperate with Shenyang University to establish a translation center at the University premises, serving as a globally recognized center for translation across multiple languages and building capacity of qualified translators.

For her part, Dr. Tong welcomed the Board members, expressing hopes that next year’s meeting would be held in-person as in previous years. She also extended her sincere gratitude to Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh and TAG-Confucius for their efforts in strengthening Chinese-Jordanian and Sino-Arab relations across various fields, as well as their significant role in promoting Chinese language and culture among Jordanian and Arab peoples. 
She also stated that Shenyang Normal University is experiencing significant growth since its establishment, with the number of colleges increasing to 26 across diverse disciplines and the number of students increasing to 24000. The University. Dr. Tong elaborated, is also implementing a systematic plan to train qualified teachers and improve their skills through specialized training courses and workshops.

On the sideline of the Meeting, both Mr. Abu Al-Sebaa and Dr. Songfang presented a detailed report to the Board members indicating the cultural, academic, artistic, and social activities conducted by TAG-Confucius in 2023, along with the 2024 Activity Plan.  

It is worth mentioning that TAG-Confucius is celebrating the16th Anniversary of its establishment, with the aim at enhancing efforts to organize cultural, artistic, and academic activities that promote the Chinese language and culture in Jordan and throughout the Arab region.
